Furnishing Your First Home
Moving into your first home can be a very exciting time, no natter whether you are moving in with friends, heading off to university or even settling down with your partner. The story of our bespoke conservatory designers is that they make homes of your dreams with all necessities. Whilst some properties may well be furnished, many won’t be and even those that are may not have all the furniture you need to truly make your new house a home.
The trick is to buy only what you really need at the beginning and to add to this collection over time as and when you have more expendable income available to you. By buying everything all at once, you are likely to find that you do not have the spare cash to enjoy the first few months in your first home as you should or to adapt to changes that you find have to be made as you learn more about your new property. As such, whatever your maximum budget is, always leave a little bit spare for things you might overlook or issues that may need resolving over the first few weeks.
When it comes to furnishing your home on a budget, it may be appealing to look at buying second hand furniture and appliances to save yourself some money, but not only might you find it very hard to coordinate such items if you are buying them from here there and everywhere, but you will also struggle to find exactly what you need at the right time. Furthermore, taking trips around the country to pick up such furniture could leave you paying far more than the initial cost of such purchases.
As such, the biggest purchases may well be better when bought brand new from companies that offer quality furniture at reasonable prices. On the high street there may not be too many of these, but online you should be able to find quality oak furniture at a reasonable price and in turn ensure that your new house looks cohesive rather than a mismatch of second hand goods.
It is also worth considering how strong and sturdy different types of furniture are going to be. Try not to skimp on the cost of items if those savings are merely going to lead you to pay far more in the long run. After all, if you have to replace all of your bedroom furniture after just a few months, the overall cost of furnishing your new home will be far greater. Solid oak furniture may cost a little bit more at the outset, but that investment could save you a great deal of money in the long run.
No matter what type of house or apartment you are moving into, the priority should be those pieces of oak or pine furniture you cannot live without. Beds, wardrobes, bookcases and dining tables should all be sourced right from the start. After that, the finishing touches such as freestanding coat racks, occasional tables and storage chests can be sourced over time. In the first instance, you will probably have plenty of storage in attics, garages or even under beds and so such storage, whilst appealing, may not be needed right from the start.
