When you take on a new pet, you’ll need to make sure you have certain basic pet supplies already in stock to help them to settle your home. These essentials include items related to feeding, sleeping and going to the toilet. Here is a good starting point for those essentials you’ll need for your new pet cat.
1. Food and Bowls. Food is required by all living mammals to stay happy and healthy, so this is the most important thing for you to buy. If you’ve adopted your pet, the previous owner or rescue centre will be able to advise on their diet. If you want to change the diet or don’t know what the previous one was, discuss with your vet the best way forward.
2. Litter Box and Litter. Cats are very clean-living animals and like a dedicated area for them to go to the toilet. Start off the right way by providing a litter box and plenty of clean, fresh litter regularly. There are different types of litter available, so again you might want to find out what your cat was using previously.
3. Scratching Post. Cats use their claws and so need to keep them in shape. A scratching post is used to remove the old nail ‘shells’. Having a scratching post available will also minimise the risk of your new cat using your furniture instead!
4. Toys. Cats like to be stimulated like we do and they use toys as an outlet for their natural hunting instincts.
